Influenza: Matic Lee “Smoke Session”

Influenza is a series that explores the realm of inspiration, and where artists are able to draw theirs from when it comes to the creation of their music. For this installment MC and producer Matic Lee takes us inside his studio to discuss “Smoke Session,” one of the many available on his more recent release Smoke and a Mirror (which is available as a free download via his website). Reflecting on the story behind the track he explains some of the adversity that fueled his lyrics for the song, also discussing its original connection to Nashville’s Ice Cold Jay and the track which “Smoke Session” masterfully samples: Joey Gilmore’s “Somebody Done Took My Baby and Gone.” Watch out for the abundance of killer bars (“I don’t know one bank that cashes a diploma”) in the song and be sure to cop Smoke and a Mirror.

Matic lee is one of the most creative artist I know of ,in and out of the industry. He does great work and it definitely does show. I have his most recent album smoke and a mirror its great. I would recommend anybody reading this to check it out. Everyone that I hang around has asked me for more than one copyu to give to someone because they asked for it. Like I said his work shows. When you listen to todays music you can tell that its lacking something,”QUALITY” and that something that his album doesn’t. I would recommend it to anyone from any walk of life there is something for you.
