Meaghan Smith “I Know”

Props to Mary Lucia over at the Current for spinning some Meaghan Smith the other day. I had never heard of Smith, but was immediately drawn in by the track “I Know,” which features an infectious piano hook and some sonorous clarinet. Smith’s tune is a throwback to the days when jazz vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan ruled the scene. Like those singers of yore, Smith’s voice is the driving force of her music, and her talent is clearly one to be reckoned with. I’m not sure how she slipped under our radar here (I am pretty sure that head editor Chris DeLine gets Google alerts for “beautiful Canadian vocalist” – sorry buddy, she’s married) but it’s a mistake that I plan to remedy soon with a purchase of Smith’s debut The Cricket’s Quartet.

I got to say Jon, I’m a little upset by your suggestion that I have some sort of creepy Google crawler sending me the latest updates on “beautiful Canadian vocalist”…

“Apple bottomed Canadian songstresses,” however? Guilty!

    Love dat onion booty!

    Hi Jon,

That’s funny…I was doing some research on Meaghan Smith since I instantly fell in love with her voice and tune “I Know” after Mary Lucia played it this afternoon as well.
