Mexican Institute of Sound “El Microfono”
I am headed down to Austin this Spring for the SXSW Music festival, and one of the bands that I am most excited to see is Mexico City’s Mexican Institute of Sound. M.I.S. is the side project of EMI Mexico president Camilo Lara. Lara fuses elements of folk, electronica, and hip hop, creating some extremely funky dance music. “El Microfono” is the single off of 2007′s fantastic record Piñata. The comparison to Manu Chao is very evident, though M.I.S. is a little more buttoned down and slick sounding than Chao ever was. If you happen to be at the upcoming music conference, I highly suggest that you come down to this showcase to have a Patrõn with me.
