Bands To Watch: Mellowdrone

Submitted by Chris DeLine on March 17, 2006 – 10:47 pmNo Comment

Encompassing the current electro-rock revival, Mellowdrone display characteristics of both a hard rock troupe and gentle, introspective wanderers. Teetering on the borderline of over-produced and tacky, the band maintain a remarkable energy and power within their music. Lead guitarist, Jonathan Bates brags of “Oh My” jokingly; “The song needed something to take it over the top so I threw in a solo that sounds like Zakk Wylde, circa 1987.” He continues, “I knew I nailed it because when I stopped recording my solo everyone was on the floor laughing.” A band that can laugh at itself while still delivering solid, sensational music, definitely deserve notice.
