The MySpace Roundup: A place for some of my new best friends and their bands to get noticed! This time around I am pleased to introduce you to Philadelphia’s most bad assiest keytar-welding son of a gun Mose Giganticus, Dallas indie-MC Pikahsso and Minneapolis’ answer to the age old question “can young adults gather and form under the moniker ‘Mouthful of Bees’ while still creating enjoyable music?” - Mouthful of Bees.

In concept this one man band who brandishes a keytar as the lone weapon to accompany his scream-o interpretation of “Mr. Roboto” should be downright wretched. I must say however that it isn’t entirely all that shabby as it wreaks a bit of Atom and His Package - or at least the 5% of his songs I can tolerate.

Take for instance any band with male musical reinforcement fronted by a female that has released material in recent memory - they’re all compared to Yeah Yeah Yeahs somehow, no? Well, despite sounding nothing of the sort Mouthful of Bees physical makeup draws similarity to that of last year’s Southern standouts Be Your Own PET. However, whereas BYOP wanted you to know they’re independent (mother fucker) the Bees want you to simply remember why independent rock ‘n roll is still key to somehow balancing both free trade and restrictive embargoes world-wide. Or, maybe that’s a lie and they simply play seductive rock that suggests a maturity far beyond the group’s years. Only you can be the judge of that.

Chances are that by acknowledging his music I’m not going to strengthen my chances of avoiding Pikhasso’s daily MySpace bulletins but hopefully it will at least introduce him and his group PPT to a few more people (who will then too be subjected to bulletin spam). This cut is reminiscent of what made me first get into Naughty By Nature (with the exception of any references to other people’s genitals) and it has a hint of Nice & Smooth.
