What’s Good in Nashville? Third Man, Road to Bonnaroo & new videos

Here’s what’s good in Nashville for Monday, March 21, 2011.

• Last week Jack White unveiled the Rolling Record Store with a parking lot performance in Austin where both he and recent Third Man signee Seasick Steve played a few songs to an energetic crowd. Steve, as White noted half-way through his two song set, had just signed an unusual contract to release some music via the Nashville label. As the story goes, “Seasick Steve’s forthcoming album will be released later this year in North America via Third Man Records and will be preceded by a two-song single for the label’s Blue Series. The agreement came about when Steve presumptuously signed his name on a table in Jack White’s office to act as his contract. As a man with deep reverence for furniture, Jack White had no choice but to oblige.” Exclaim has more info on the release as well as a fantastic video of Steve performing “Dog House” on the BBC’s Later with Jools Holland. A firm release date has yet to be set for either Seasick Steve’s upcoming Blue Series single or full length album You Can’t Teach an Old Dog New Tricks, but Third Man promises that both will drop sometime this year.

Pitchfork caught up with Jack White while at SXSW for an interview where he discussed upcoming Third Man releases, working with likes of Jay-Z & Bob Dylan and the split of the White Stripes.

Mercy Lounge will host the second in the venue’s Road to Bonnaroo events tonight. The free show will feature the Captain Midnight Band, Cheer Up Charlie Daniels, Leroy Powell, Keegan DeWitt, the Pink Spiders, Big Surr (who pretty much already guaranteed victory), Brandon Jazz and His Armed Forces & Born Empty—the winner joining Chancellor Warhol (who won the first showcase) in heading to Bonnaroo this summer.

• A pair of new Ca$hville videos just dropped: The first for “Hot” from the Trash Bag Gang (Starlito, Red Dot & Mike J), the second for “Suck My Swag” by Likwid Flowz.

• Cut Throat Kid has produced a new trance-heavy track titled “Those Who Wait.”

• Paste named the Kopecky Family Band one of their “10 Favorite SXSW 2011 Performances.” Paste also has video of the band performing “Angry Eyes” during their two-day showcase.

Cake in 15 has video of Tristen performing at Friday’s KUT showcase in Austin.

Stuff and Such recaps Queens of the Stone Age’s performance at the Ryman.

• Understandably, Ke$ha’s dipping on her upcoming dates in Japan.
