Neon Indian “Deadbeat Summer”

neon indian cover

While other portions of the Psychic Chasms album are abstract and dissonant to an annoying extreme, Texas’ Neon Indian recently made one of the best songs from the new “glo fi” genre with the twitchy dance pop gem “Deadbeat Summer.” The track pulses along with glittering synths and lead singer Alan Palomo’s (also of Ghosthustler and VEGA) cool and collected vocals. The electronic instruments ebb and flow, building a great tension that really pushes the song forward. While there is already some blow back against these frosty, electro pop songs coming from bands like Neon Indian, I think that resistance would be quickly erased if more of the songs were as funky and exciting as “Deadbeat Summer.”
