Those familiar with the Trailer Park Boys, the raunchy Canadian TV series which most recently spun the devastatingly disappointing movie Countdown to Liquor Day, are likely familiar with the bottle kids as well. For those who are unfamiliar, Wikipedia sums things up nicely, “The bottle kids are a gang of young kids or teens that show up about every second episode [ed. note: the bottle kids slowly disappear from the series with the progression of each season] with a shopping cart full of glass bottles and bombard one or more of the principal characters from a distance, and then run away.” The description continues, “The minute anyone shouts ‘Bottle kids!,’ everyone in the vicinity ducks.” The Colorado-based Tjutjuna‘s “Bottles Kids” is pretty much the musical embodiment of that description—the only real difference being that the song is a swirling web of looped guitars which unravels into to mess of fuzzy chords over the course of four minutes rather than, y’know, actually being the sound of kids throwing bottles at people.

“Backtracking” has an interesting sound that lands between an 8-bit video game soundtrack and a flighty trance warp, accompanied by a sharp synth that lends the track a unique tone despite its comfortable familiarity. This version of the song, the instrumental, accompanies the original take of Bright Star Catalogue‘s “Backtracking” (with vocals!) which can be heard over at the act’s ultra-minimalist MySpace page.

New this week is a fresh project from, in part, my man Emay—who was most recently featured for his Where The Wild Things Are remix EP—which features the likes of Radiohead spliced with Lupe Fiasco, and some Jay-Z, Meth & Red, Ghostface, Scarface & more, all mashed and mixed. Working with Remot & EOM, the trio of producers are dropping the new EP under the name of RockPaperScissors. While the nine tracks run the gamut of sound, if you’re looking for funky, look no further than EOM’s remix of Lyrics Born‘s “Funky Hit Records.” Sure, the original‘s funky and all, but this mix ups the ante to fresh new levels of funk-itude. Download the entire EP over at Vinyl Meltdown.
