Nile announces Station 4 concert date

Many death meal bands are content to simply rest on the laurels of the genre and churn out the same tired schtick of carnage, malice, and revenge with each new album release. Not so in the case of South Carolina’s Nile, one of extreme death metal’s more curious and innovative acts. Ever since the release of Nile’s genre re-defining opus Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka over a decade ago, each album from Nile still continues to push the envelope, blasting out levels of brutality complemented by cultured intellectualism that can irk both elitist metalheads and non-metalheads in equal measure. The band’s approach to death is a unique but strangely appropriate one in the modern world: create the darkest, most barbaric, most technical sound possible, and layer it with enough world music inclinations and mythically & historically rooted Middle Eastern lyrical references to make even a global studies grad student blush.

Nile has been holed up in the studio for nearly a month to record the followup to its 2007 opus Ithyphallic, and guitarist Karl Sanders calls the new album the band’s most eclectic to date, mixing elements of “oud music, Iranian music, and some Hindu stuff“ with unrelenting death metal. The untitled release is still being wrapped up (and I couldn’t be more excited), but even while these shredders are still in the studio the band’s members aren’t wasting anytime in booking a U.S. tour to bring their superior breed of metal to the masses. Flanked by its peers in Immolation and Krisiun, Nile’s “Those Whom The Gods Detest” tour is the first scheduled and likely most satisfying brutal metal tours to make rounds in all of 2010. Abigail Williams and Dreaming Dead support.
