Nine Inch Nail’s 2005 album, With Teeth, garnered a great deal of attention as its release ended a five year wait following 1999’s acclaimed The Fragile (which was also released a half decade after the group’s previous album). Its mainstream success, however, failed to catapult it into the heart of die hard fans to the same degree as The Fragile as it offered a polished sound that strayed from front-man Trent Reznor’s traditional experimentalism. With the (new) group’s April release Year Zero it looks to reclaim the sound that once made it (Reznor) a pillar of the hard rock community.
Recently speaking to Culture Bully’s favorite UK Metal magazine, Kerrang!, Reznor explained how the album was written and recorded on the road “in hotel rooms around the world on laptops,” speeding up the traditional five year waiting period fans have come to accept when waiting for new material. He continued commenting on how he was essentially writing “the soundtrack to a movie that doesn’t exist.”
Solidifying the With Teeth tour is Nine Inch Nail’s upcoming DVD release, Live: Beside You In Time, preluding the band’s album with its February 27th release date. Though not Reznor’s first stab at a live DVD, the trailer proves this effort breathtaking with its stunning visuals, all filmed in high definition. Look for a North American Summer tour which should follow the recently announced series of Japanese dates.
