The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

Of Montreal on Late Night with Conan

On the whole I’m still not entirely convinced that Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? is solid as a complete album. The first time I listened to it, I was with my sister (a far most interested fan of the band than I) and we both kind of just looked at each other and shrugged. That being said, I have a tremendous appreciation for a few songs, here and there, “Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse” being one of them. Could it be simply due to positive memories of when I saw the band last year? We’ll never know…
