Omaur Bliss “Surgeon General”

I have recently started listening to Omaur Bliss’s solo stuff ever since I heard him rapping over Aby Wolf’s fantastic Sweet Prudence track “What U Waitn’ 4.” The St. Paul rapper is another great example of the depth of the Twin Cities’ Hip Hop scene. I have been spinning “Surgeon General” pretty often lately – I love the track’s seesawing violin and pounding bassline, all over Bliss’s steady flow. There is definitely a jazz influence, but this a little “harder” than the laid back rhythms of, say, Tribe or Digable Planets. Though Bliss has been around for a few years, I am sorry that this is the first I am hearing of him.
