The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

Public Enemy “Harder Than You Think” Video

Submitted by Chris DeLine on August 8, 2007 – 10:00 am7 Comments

While KRS-One & Marley Marl presented an album this year representing stories of where they’ve been Public Enemy just released an album telling the world where they are. Who would have thought that below the surface of bloated comedy channel roasts and reality show pimping Flava Flav is still somewhat relevant. That sentence can only be complete by adding why he’s relevant – because he is a member of Public Enemy. While if it weren’t for Flav Public Enemy wouldn’t be what it is today but if it weren’t for Chuck D Flava Flav wouldn’t be anything – period. Chuck’s lyrics on the first single from How You Sell Soul To A Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul? are as strong as magnificent beat is magnificent; something which has been suspiciously absent during the majority of the group’s past few releases. The single already has its own wiki, “‘Harder Than You Think,” was the first single off of Public Enemy’s 2007 20th anniversary album How You Sell Soul To A Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul?, and is symbolic of the first PE release twenty years ago. Flavor Flav redoes his Public Enemy Number One vocals and welds two eras together with uncanny precision.”

“Screamin’ ‘gangsta’ twenty years later of course endorse while consciousness faded, new generations believe in them fables gangsta boogie on two turntable.” KRS-One’s attempts to re-establish himself by emphasizing that he was there when MTV Raps hit the airwaves is muted by Chuck’s contention that gangsta rap is as much of a symbolistic joke now as it was then. “If you don’t stand for something you fall for anything;” while a standard thought, in a time when the legends are neglecting innovation and the majority emphasize limiting art, Public Enemy still stands for something – just like that!

PE is great! Flava’s always been the sideshow aspect of the group, but you’re right; it wouldn’t be the same without him. Thanks for the post!

i hope that the video gets into heavy rotation on the International Music Feed. It’s the only video channel that plays decent hip hop

  • Chris DeLine says:

I’m not familiar with the International Music Feed – but I checked the site out and it seems to have a good amount of variety – so, in that case I too hope the video gets some exposure through the IMF…but knowing traditional media, I highly doubt it will.

I am so loving this new album! They don’t sound old school and they also don’t sound like old guys trying to be young…they just sound like the sh**!

  • Chris DeLine says:

Agreed! I haven’t made it through the entire album yet, but there are some seriously killer tracks that…imagine this…don’t sound like they’re a decade old.

  • Dennis says:

Saw them perform on Jimmy Kimmel last week. Immediately ran out and bought new cd…….its awesome. Grammy in sight for this masterpiece!!!
