Real Estate “Suburban Beverage”

Underwater Peoples Records has been on a great roll over the last year and one of the best bands on the label is the New Jersey-based Real Estate. One of the best songs the group has created to date is the hazy, simmering pop music gem “Suburban Beverage.” The song, which clocks in at right around six minutes, is a meandering song that never seems to push the listener too far. I have listened to the song many times in my headphones, each time hoping to find why it is that I like the song so much. And without fail, each time the woozy atmosphere created by the ringing guitar lines and faded vocals lead me to a daydream with my attention being brought back around only when the song comes to its conclusion. While this may be an insult to some bands, I have a feeling that Real Estate set out to create such a mood setting song. Like a lot of their fellow bands on the Underwater Peoples Real Estate sets out to, and succeeds at, be as good as any band out right now at creating exciting and engaging atmospheric pop music. Hopefully we will be hearing more daydream soundtracks from them in the near future.
