The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

The three-song debut EP explicitly borrows from a wide range of bands from the early ’80s, and the group does so effectively. Keeping somewhat of a rough sound through a modest recording budget has its definite benefits.br /br /”I’ve Got Your Love” is reminiscent Hüsker Dü, with its fast paced, muted drum set. If the band’s eponymous EP was longer than 10 minutes it might become clearer as to whether the Pretty Flowers sound is simply a knock-off or a continuation of a lost gem. Time will tell.br /br /br /a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1133/636/1600/2.5%20stars.10.jpg”img style=”cursor: pointer;” src=”http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1133/636/200/2.5%20stars.10.jpg” alt=”" border=”0″ //abr /br /a href=”http://prettyflowers.org/mp3/Riot.mp3″Pretty Flowers “Riot”/a span style=”font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”(mp3)/spanbr /a href=”http://prettyflowers.org/mp3/Knife_Fight.mp3″Pretty Flowers “Knife Fight”/a span style=”font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”(mp3)br /br //spana href=”http://prettyflowers.org/”Pretty Flowers – Official Site/abr /a href=”http://www.myspace.com/prettyflowers” Pretty Flowers – MySpace Site/a span style=”font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);”(4 songs)br /br //spana onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1133/636/1600/Pretty%20Flowers.0.jpg”img style=”margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;” src=”http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1133/636/320/Pretty%20Flowers.0.jpg” alt=”" border=”0″ //a
