A little while back Ryan Adams and the Cardinals hit The Late Show playing a unique set, the majority of it intended for a web only audience. And as per the norm, the man threw down…has Ryan Adams ever had a bad set?! Me thinks not!

Bad set? What about the one where he angrily kicked out a fan out for callying him “Bryan Adams?”
Seriously though, I love Ryan Adams - Jacksonville city nights is badass.

You can add his last two Minneapolis gigs to that list (from what I hear)

I’m actually serious - That album is great. The other two he put out that year were OK.

I have little knowledge of Ryan Adams concerts since I’ve only been to one (Sept. 24th Kalamazoo Mich.), but I can honestly say I wasn’t overly impressed. Musically it was good, but, Ryan’s stage presence…not so good. He freaked out because people were yelling out song names that they wanted to hear. I understand that they have a set list and can’t fit everyones favorite songs in but he was doing guitar/piano solo stuff which was really cool and then quit in the middle of and intro and had the Cardinals come back out to finish the set. I honestly think he skipped at least 2 or 3 songs.

My slight at his history comes with the full knowledge that one of my good friends is a fanatic…no matter what he does, she’ll be down with him. I like him on a casual level…I would have no problem whatsoever listening to Adams at any point in the day - but am not a huge fan…I had the opportunity to check out one of his recent shows here in town but am glad that I didn’t go in a way because Adams blew up at the guy running the soundboard…I understand how particular one can become when presenting their art, but I can’t overlook humanity - or lack of it.

Maybe he’s one of those artist that makes great albums but only has moments of greatnest doing live shows.

That’s the trouble…there are moments of greatness (or so the people say)….it’s just - I wish there weren’t the moments of complete assholery (that’s a new word as of right now, feel free to use it if you cite me in such discussion ©)

prior to 2002 his shows were almost always full on killer, since then… very very hit or miss
