This past week saw a strange breakdown for Silverchair with singer Daniel Johns succumbing to laryngitis just as the group was set to kick off its North American tour. To the band’s credit they did attempt to give a strong performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, but uniformed viewers couldn’t have thought anything but the worst as Johns’ voice left him early on during the group’s performance of “Straight Lines.” The news wasn’t released until after the group’s uncharacteristic performance, coming as comforting news to those who had thought Silverchair had again cracked.
Having to reschedule its California dates Silverchair were still able to perform later this past week on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Fortunately it seemed as though Johns’ throat had recovered somewhat for the performance and the band gave a far better rendition of the song. Silverchair look to continue its tour this week with Ohio’s We Are The Fury in the supporting role.
