So All Your Hippie Friends Still Listen To Phish… (Muxtape)

Submitted by Jon Behm on June 28, 2008 – 3:00 pmNo Comment

Every week or so Culture Bully will bring you a mixtape designed for your life’s experiences. We know its tough out there so we will try to tailor the tracks specifically to what you have going on in your life. Whether you’re being chased by your dead grandmother’s ghost, you’re trying to perfect that killer curveball, or you have just been crowned the Prince of Zimbabwe – Culture Bully has you covered with the soundtrack. Here are some quality tunes to help wean your hippie friends off the jam bands, courtesy of Jon Behm.

Antibalas “Beaten Metal”
(Hippies like to dance to the funkiness, right?)

Michael Franti & Spearhead “Red Beans and Rice”
(Political themes, dreadlocks, and lot’s of “freaky” followers)

Lightheaded “In the Building”
(That’s right, hippies listen to hip hop now!)

Animal Collective “Leaf House”
(This sound like the sort of thing a hippy would like)

Panda Bear “Bros”
(Ditto)

Fleet Foxes “White Winter Hymnal”
(Lead singer has long hair and doesn’t wear deodorant. Oh, and their music rocks!)

Roma Di Luna “Tree of Life”
(For the more folk-leaning hippies, if there are any of those anymore)

Cloud Cult “Living on the Outside of Your Skin”
(Most self-respecting hippies have already heard of this band)

DeVotchKa “Venus in Furs”
(Hippies missed out on the Velvet Underground the first time around. What better time to catch up?)

Man Man “Van Helsing Boombox”
(Man Man followers are hippies on speed, but hippies nonetheless)

The Brian Jonestown Massacre “Anenome”
(I can definitely imagine people dropping acid, getting naked, and grooving to this song)
