The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. So You’ve Been Kidnapped By Pirates… (Muxtape)

Submitted by Jon Behm on June 22, 2008 – 3:21 pmNo Comment

Every week or so Culture Bully will bring you a mixtape designed for your life’s experiences. We know its tough out there so we will try to tailor the tracks specifically to what you have going on in your life. Whether you’re being chased by your dead grandmother’s ghost, you’re trying to perfect that killer curveball, or you have just been crowned the Prince of Zimbabwe – Culture Bully has you covered with the soundtrack. Here’s the mix to help adapt you to life on the high seas, courtesy of Jon Behm.

The Decemberists “Shanty For Arethusa”
(Aaar! Button down the hatches)

Stephen Malkmus “The Hook”
(There is no better jam about being kidnapped by pirates)

Tom Waits “Hoist that Rag”
(Tom Waits is a modern day pirate if there ever was one)

Alela Diane “Pirates Gospel”
(Obviously, this is a pirate song)

Gogol Bordello “Wanderlust King”
(If Gogol Bordello fought real pirates, Gogol would win)

Calexico “Sunken Waltz”
(This is sort of like pirate blues…for when you get scurvy)

The Black Keys “All Hands Against His Own”
(If you can’t imagine murderin’ and plunderin’ to this jam, well, then you have no imagination)

Cat Power “Cross Bones Style”
(For the sensitive pirate)

William Elliott Whitmore “Diggin’ My Grave”
(Every pirate dies a lonesome death)
