The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

Soulwax: “Nite Versions” Update

Despite David and Stephen Dewaele’s heavy remixing influence on hipster-dance based acts such as LCD Soundsystem (not to mention 2 Many DJs monstrous notoriety in the mash-up world), the two, along with Stefaan Van Leuven and Steve Slingeneyer, combine for some pretty compelling original electro-rock pieces as Soulwax. In all honesty, “Miserable Girl” is a track that delivers as something that could be enjoyed in a club atmosphere without neglecting a casual listeners tastes. Its progressive loop withstands a number of blazing effects, and holds promising thoughts about the rest of Nite Versions.
