Moby elevated everyone who was lucky enough to be in attendance at his concert at the Fine Line this past Thursday night, with an uplifting, spiritual performance that showed not only how wonderful his songs truly are when stripped of their glossy production, but also how varied and eclectic his catalog genuinely is.
While May’s high profile major label releases might’ve dominated sales charts, it was the month’s independent releases that were the most compelling. Add to that a series of fantastic concerts, the Twin Cities’ largest hip hop festival and a few solid music videos and May measures just as strong as any other this year. Above all however, these are Culture Bully’s favorite things from the month of May.
The album is, in essence, derivative of the idea that returning to creating for the love of creating is what’s most important. Which in and of itself is a fantastic philosophy that points toward the epitome of art, but when you take Moby’s history into account, and his longstanding relationship with commercial outlets and adding dollar amounts to his musical creations, such a direction from the musician comes with as much initial appreciation as it does skepticism.

Although they may never return to the level of popularity they once saw, or release music as invigorating as they once did, here’s a look at a few songs that exemplify why the Prodigy are a vital piece of the puzzle that is the history of pop music.
