The Almighty Defenders release “Cone of Light”

almighty defenders

The Almighty Defenders, the decadent garage rock fan’s wet dream featuring members of the Black Lips and King Khan & BBQ Show, have now let out a few teasers from their upcoming self titled debut LP. The first track released was the lo-fi explosion of “Bow Down and Die,” which sounds like what you might expect if King Khan & BBQ Show and the Black Lips came together and got wasted in the recording studio. The second and most recent song released from the disc sounds like it was recorded a little earlier in the night, before the liquor had really soaked into their systems. The soulful “Cone of Light” is less abrasive and sounds more like mid-1950′s classic soul. Whomever is singing (I am thinking it’s King Khan, but it may be BBQ Show) delivers a commanding lead performance over the driving backing music. Based off the first two songs, the Almighty Defenders debut is shaping up to be a fun, raucous disc; but with King Khan, the Black Lips, and BBQ Show, would you expect anything less? No news yet on a tour, which would be a spectacle of epic proportions if it ever comes together; the disc hits stores this coming September 22nd.
