The Cribs are back—with Johnny Marr no less—and are armed with their latest batch of punk infused, tightly wound pop songs. Ignore the Ignorant starts off with what may be the best track on the record, the driving “We Were Aborted,” which features a straight forward verse before exploding into a richly melodic chorus with lead singer Ryan Jarman singing the darkly cynical lines “It makes you feel important/’Cause you knew we were aborted.” Like the best work on their previous albums, the new songs represent a nice mixture of crisp pop sounds with a loose, angry punk ethos running throughout. While the album as a whole isn’t as strong as Men’s Needs Women’s Needs, Whatever, We Were Aborted may be the most concise, anthemic song the group has ever written and is a stirring song that continues to highlight the strengths of this great band.
