The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

I don’t like this song. I hope the rest of the album is better. I’m growing weary of Jack White though. As much as I liked him in the White Stripes, he now comes off to me as a little douchy. I get the impression he fancies himself a musical genius and I think that impression was solidified by him playing drums in this venture of his.
I have always loved allison’s other band the kills, and thinks this brings an even edgier rougher sound to her vocals and songwritting….but the band in general is centered around jack and him trying to showcase his unique take on drumming. He reminded me of a young drummer who while in theory is a technically good because he had the best lessons from the best teachers, the best gear, and has always had support, jack lacks passion as a drummer in this band. Maybe he is taking a cue from Meg’s lack luster but dead on appropriate drumming style. Only time will tell if I change my mind on this first thought.
i don’t like this band as much as the white stripes or the raconteurs. however, i am a die-hard jack white fan but this comes off as a little bit…meh to me. none of the songs really feel like his–it’s similar to the feeling when you’ve got your right shoe on your left foot.
just not right. female vocalist? i’ll keep meg, thanks. this alison chick really isn’t working for me, especially against all these other talents.
