When not making Frank Miller-esque videos with Timbaland The Hives apparently spent a bit of time recording a few tracks of their own, this time around for the follow up to 2004’s mediocre Tyrannosaurus Hives entitled The Back and White Album. The album’s lead single, “Tick Tick Boom,” should be receiving quite a bit of face time among the kids as the track is currently being featured in a Nike Finish Line commercial and will be included as a part of the soundtrack for the upcoming Madden ‘08 video game. The single is set to officially drop on the same day as the game, August 14th, and from an early listen it sounds a bit closer to the band’s older material than their last album. Let’s just hope The Black and White Album doesn’t have any direct correlation to the band’s recent decision to act as tour openers for the god-awful Maroon 5.
The Hives “Tick Tick Boom (Ruisrock ‘07)”

The Precinct wrote a song called Tick Tick Boom over a year ago! The Hives stole the title from us after we stole it from Jonathan Larson. Man is Jonathan pissed. Peace and Love to the hives, great minds think alike.
