Twin Cities:
— The Current features a performance by Jeremy Messersmith. (link)
— Check out Jägerfest this Saturday at Club Jäger; included on the bill are Solid Gold, Bella Koshka and First Communion After Party. (link)
— (not) Paul Westerberg’s personal blog mentions a new track called, “Bored of Edukation.” (link) (cough, cough)
— Rift Magazine reviews Mystery Palace and Military Special. (link) (link)
— Thinking about checking out RRIICCEE next Tuesday at the Turf Club? “You should mention something about the Vincent Gallo show at Hiro Ballroom last night. 25 dollars: the worst show I have EVER seen in my life. Him and two out-of-work male models hunched over (Gallo’s) expensive vintage equipment and noodled for an hour. I seriously do not think anyone in the band actually knows how to play an instrument. Gallo had his back towards the audience the whole time and ended the show with a mumbled ‘thanks’ and they took off backstage. I thought it was a pathetic attempt at an encore, and then the house lights came up.” (link)
— Think you’ve missed out on some of the web’s best mashups this summer? Check out ABX’s brilliant combination of Dosh and Mariah Carey. (link) If that one doesn’t do the trick for you, give The Hood’s Atmosphere/Silversun Pickups track a try. (link)
(Inter)National:
— Muxtape founder Justin Ouellette released a message explaining the site’s extended downtime on Thursday. The good? Muxtape is being reinvented at this very moment – a project will see release that will bring Ouellette’s ideals into the context of a legal medium. The bad? While in the crux of discussion with Big Music, Ouellette was hoodwinked by the RIAA – shutting him down and deleting his files just as he was apparently edging towards a breakthrough (or maybe not). The ugly? Ouellette’s explanation of the new Muxtape, “I realize this is a somewhat radical shift in functionality, but Muxtape’s core goals haven’t changed. I still want to challenge the way we experience music online, and I still want to work to enable what I think is the most interesting aspect of interconnected music: discovering new stuff.” I came to a similar conclusion as Pitchfork’s Matthew Solarski in that the new Muxtape sounds a whole lot like every other streaming music application…something which the old Muxtape wasn’t. — Ever wonder what “Jamie,” the coffee guy from that one 30 Rock episode, does when he’s not bumping and grinding with Tina Fey? Well, the man makes music. Check out Val Emmich’s new video starring…Val Emmich. (link)
