The Mayfair Set “Desert Fun”
What happens when two one-person bands, who are darlings of the blogopshere before they even release albums, decide to form a group together? Does this constitute using the phrase supergroup? Neither the one-woman Dum Dum Girls nor the one-man Blank Dogs have released much of a body of work, yet they have decided to venture out to create music together under the moniker the Mayfair Set. And apparently the extra workload hasn’t been too much of a burden as they have released a strong series of some good, fuzzy pop songs. “Already Warm” features some incessant guitar work with some layered vocals that create some great textures that allow the listener to sink deep into the sound the band is creating. “Desert Sun” finds the two piece buzzing along, using familiar boy-girl harmonies while creating another frayed pop song. Both songs show the strength of this new band, who will be releasing their debut EP sometime in the near future.
