The Mummies “DIE!”

I never thought I would get the chance to see legendary garage rockers the Mummies live (the band parted ways in the early ’90s), but last year the gang began playing sporadic shows again in Europe and the States. Though the band doesn’t seem to have anything remotely resembling a tour schedule, I recently noticed that NYC photographer Leia Jospe caught them at a recent show in Brooklyn. A Minneapolis show may be too much to ask for, but regardless I am still breaking out some vintage Mummies and hoping for the best. Here’s a track from the band’s most recent album (and one of the few available in electronic format) Death by Unga Bunga. Re-listening to this, I am reminded of the debt which is owed to the Mummies’ gritty DIY aesthetic by some of my current favorite garage acts including King Khan and the Shrines and Ty Segall. One can only imagine what the band’s live shows are like…
