Not sure if you’ve heard, but The Shins are huge. On the heels of the band’s successful performance on Saturday Night Live the band is rumored to have sold some 90,000 copies of its recently released Wincing the Night Away in its first week. This would make the album Sub Pop’s biggest selling debut week ever.
The band recently played an in-store performance at Amoeba Records in Los Angeles which caused a stream of excess fans to leak out onto Sunset Boulevard due to the large number of people showing up for the free show. Question of the Day: Would The Shins have reached this level of success if it weren’t for Zach Braff? Follow-Up: Is the Braff-effect a good thing or a bad thing? Either way, The Shins are huge.

If the same trend follows, as did with back in January, expect Neon Ballroom to sell close to a hundred thousand records its first week out…though in all fairness I’m not sure that The Shins’ commerciality can too be associated with Arcade Fire.
