The Shy Retire: Arab Strap Call It Quits

Who were Arab Strap to you? Here’s who they were to me: They were an alright band that made me want to like them more than I actually did. All Belle and Sebastian references aside, that’s pretty much the reason that I got into Arab Strap. Why do I feel that there is a whole lot lost here? It’s a situation of what could be in the future. But each side is going their own way and releasing their own music. And they’re happy. I like the shoegaze-tease they occasionally pulled and some of the beatish lo-fi, but all in all, I can’t say it means a whole lot to me. Why even mention that? Just think, for a moment, about how many current groups you listen to who, if they would break up, would just become a memory. There’s a few.
