I’m with your mom (not literally, of course), that Gnarls video is quite sad-innovative, but quite sad. Great list, especially the Bjork and Radiohead videos (which might have my vote for saddest video of the year). I really loved the video for Okkervil River’s ‘Lost Coastlines.’ Have you seen that one? Cool vid. Nice work with this list, way to keep it to just 10 (I mean, what kind of stupid site would do a Top 40 videos of the year, anyway
I don’t think I saw one music video this year, so I could not be further from a relevent source, but these videos all seem pretty cool.
I want to give an honorable mention to Shinichi Osawa’s Star Guitar… that video is awesome… not the most original concept, but it’s vibrancy and pop make up for any of that!

Awesome picks, I am loving the eclectic mix and that most of the videos aren’t from the ‘mainstream’ crowd.
