While venturing through Canada, in the process touching base and playing (at least one note) in each and every province, The White Stripes decided that Nunavut of all places would be the perfect setting for their next video. “You Don’t Know What Love Is” captures the territory’s vacant terrain, likening itself to the faraway landscape of northern Scandinavia, while contrasting its omnipresent grayness with the band’s trademark reds and blacks. Possibly for the fact that no other band in its right mind would go to such lengths in the territory the video serves itself as a unique setting for such a song, but it is in itself tepid at best, and by far and away no where close to one of the band’s better music videos. Nothing against Emmett and Brendan Malloy, who also handled duties for the band’s “Icky Thump,” but when two minutes and twenty seconds of Meg White sleeping on a couch in “We’re Going to be Friends” is a more of a touching sentiment it makes you wonder what they were thinking. With that in mind here are a few videos featuring stop motion Lego animation, continually morphing triangles, the groundwork for a Simpsons parody, a horse stomping Jack White’s now wife Karen Elson and Conan O’Brien: The 5 best White Stripes Videos.
