The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

One of the best new producers to rise to the forefront in the mashup scene in 2007 returns with another great mix leveled out by its synth undertones. As Copycat describes it, “If you’re allergic to a) extended electro dance mashups or b) verbose intros, this might be a good time to move along.”

Mashuptown dropped a fresh new track from SUYT, a French mashup duo that consists of PhatBastard and the magnificent ComaR. Jason Funk describes the track, “With ‘Hey You!’ we have a nice new version of Skee-Lo’s (only) classic ‘I Wish.’ One of the lines in that track is ‘Hey you, what’s that sound’ – a clip sampled in the track with that title by Les Rythmes Digitales.”

The Hood Internet’s ever-consistent ABX and DJ STV SLV return this week with a mashup each; I think that at this point in time it should just be implied that anything the duo produces is going to be awesome.

ToToM falls out of his “Flux”-based slump and nails a fantastic bootleg mashing M.I.A. over Prodigy’s “Firestarter.” As a sidenote, the first track that I remember hearing which remotely resembled a mashup was in 2000 when I heard “Firestarter” being used as a makeshift base for an Eminem/Ice Cube/RZA/DMX/Tech N9ne track…everything comes full circle, no?

Divide & Kreate mashes recent Bonnaroo addition Metallica with Thin White Duke’s remix of Coldplay’s “Talk;” the resulting electronic makeover exposes a side of James Hetfield far loonier than Some Kind of Monster ever did.
