This Week in Mashups 03/01/2008

Adrian & The Mysterious D have released the latest Bootie Top 10 including quite a few recent spins that have been featured here on Culture Bully. This month’s list is especially great as The Hood Internet finally get a little Bootie-love!

One a similar, yet slightly offbeat, note the latest Bootie Top 10 includes a Dragonforce/Eagles mashup with the caveat, “Maybe we’ve been playing too much Guitar Hero. Yes, we know this is ridiculous. I mean, Dragonforce’s ‘million-notes-a-minute’ prog-rock revivial is pretty ridiculous to begin with … but throwing the Eagles classic “Hotel California” into the mix just pushes the upsurdity over the edge. Not for everyone’s taste, to be sure … but for some bizarro reason, we love it! Yes, we know it’s wrong, wrong, wrong … but it’s also a ton of fun! We’ve been selecting so many really beautiful mashups tracks in the Top 10s lately, it’s good to be reminded of the cheeky mashups out there, the ones that can’t help make you smile (or cringe)!”

This reminded me of the most hilarious (and, actually only) YouTube Guitar Hero spoof that I have seen…which is by far and away a much better time than the mashup (or anything having to do with The Eagles, to be honest).

Also on the subject of The Hood Internet, ABX & DJ STV SLV have put out some great stuff this week featuring Ludacris, She & Him, Shawty Lo and Trans Am.

Lastly, Divide & Kreate delivered a fresh release for the second straight week, this time around using the Eagles of Death Metal’s “I Got a Feeling (Just Nineteen)” as the base for splashes of Paul Hardcastle’s 1985 smash, “19.” From Wikipedia, “The 1985 release of ‘19,’ brought Hardcastle acclaim and chart success. ‘19′ was a dance record, featuring stuttering samples of television narrator Peter Thomas speaking about Vietnam war veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. Initially unhappy about having his voice used in this way, Thomas relented and allowed the single to be released. A number one hit single for Chrysalis Records in the United Kingdom for five weeks, the record topped the charts in both France and Germany in two versions, the English language original and an authorized local language alternative. Altogether it was number one in thirteen countries, selling just under three million copies worldwide.”

If you like awesome music, check out Eric Solomon! He’s great. His voice is like a cross between Lenny Kravitz and Justin Timberlake and he has the best beats. Check him out at http://www.EricSolomon.com.
