Netherlands-born Nicolay, formerly of The Foreign Exchange, experiments with elements of R&B, breakbeats and hip hop throughout his first solo release Here. After playing in the circuit for a variety of hop hop and R&B groups for roughly a decade Nicolay took reigns on the other side of board, as he took to honing his skills as a producer. Elements of such can be heard on the instrumental interludes on his album, adding a genuine feel that opposes many hip hop skits which plague far too many modern albums. Here is overflowing with talented collaborations with the likes of the soulful Darien Brockington, the sharp harmonies of Yahzarah and superb MCs Black Spade and Wiz Khalifa. Proving that years of effort have paid off Here serves as not only a look into the mind of Nicolay but a hopeful insight into the state of modern hip hop.
