TV on the Radio “Dear Science” (Best of the Decade)

TV on the Radio seemed to mirror the dynamic of the country through their multiple releases over the past few years, culminating with the excellent Return to Cookie Mountain, which practiced in the dark, twitching paranoia that seemed to sweep through the country during the darkest periods of the Bush administration. The group’s 2008 release, Dear Science, found it producing some of the most wide eyed and forward thinking music of their career. Their sweeping instrumentation and hypnotic anthems were still in place, but the songs were smoother around the edges and had a gentler touch to them. Different instruments are added to the mix and vocalists Tunde Adepimbe and Kyp Malone’s vocals are as impassioned and powerful as ever. The result is the best work of the band’s career and one of the seminal albums of the decade.

I don’t listen to a great deal of anything besides Hip-Hop these days. I absolutely loved this album; there’s something about “Family Tree” that haunts me everytime I hear it.

  • WTF, ALTEEZ? You think because four of TV on the Radio’s five members are black, they automatically must be hip-hop? No. You can’t have “absolutely loved” an album you obviously haven’t heard. But anyway, Dear Science is perfection from start to finish.

  • Whoops. I misread your statement. My apologies. But I’ve heard this band described as hip-hop plenty of times and it leaves me cold and confused.
