The Hood Internet: TV on the Radio vs. Rihanna mashup
The latest mashup from ABX of the Hood Internet offers a bit of an unusual, and certainly unexpected, twist in working TV on the Radio’s “New Cannonball Run” with Rihanna’s smash “Only Girl (In the World).” The steaming backing from one of the tracks from TVOTR’s new album offers a slow-tempo which creates a strange disconnect between expectation and execution — the song’s interesting in its appeal but strips Rihanna of her usual vitality. A few times through and despite it’s unique mix-up, tempo contrast and core attractiveness, it still seems to uncharacteristically teeter closer to the edge of “miss” than it does “hit.”
