The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

Female-heavy hip hop troupe Black Blondie are losing vocalist Sarah White. (Metroblogging)

The Walker kicked off its 31st Annual Summer Music & Movies with Black Blondie & All That Heaven Allows. The series, which will run every Monday night at dusk, will continue through the 20th of August. (Walker Art Center)

More Cowbell’s Kyle Matteson has designed a new site featuring contributions from the likes of former Pulse of the Twin Cities music editor Steve McPherson and long time local journalist Jim Walsh. (Reveille Magazine)

Finally, Chris Riemenschneider directs us to a leaked scene from Todd Haynes‘ upcoming film about Bob Dylan. The clip shows Cate Blanchett (yes, that Cate Blanchett) as Dylan and David Cross as Allen Ginsberg. Throughout the movie Dylan is also played by Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Marcus Carl Franklin and Ben Whishaw. (Star Tribune)
