The show must go on, even if it starts nearly an hour after bar close. Prince took the stage this past Saturday at First Avenue for the first time in some twenty years and played to a packed house before being shut down by the police at around 4am.

“With the tightest band I have ever seen on that stage, Prince delivered a myriad of funk, blues and New Orleans style jazz very much wearing out the tired and hot crowd of believers.” (The Current)
“Regardless of whether you liked his song choices, regardless of the fact that the crowd was tired and somewhat listless, it was Prince. At First Avenue.” (More Cowbell)
“Shortly after he sang ‘wish there were no rules,’ Prince caved into the rules. ‘The authorities say we gotta go,’ he said 70 minutes into his late, late set that started at 2:45 a.m. Sunday.’ We always listen to the authorities. I promise I’ll be back.’” (Pop Life)
“Prince performed like a trooper throughout, rarely showing even a hint of fatigue.” (Ross Raihala)
