VBS: True Norgwegian Black Metal

Peter Beste, one of the brightest photographers in all of music, served as producer for this Vice production surrounding Norwegian black metal and in particular Gaahl of the band Gorgoroth. It is as beautifully shot a piece as it is frightening. Gaahl has served imprisonment on numerous occasions for assault and in this short series he likened the brutality of his crimes to the nature of art, “It’s like a painting you cant stop until its finished.” While Dimmu Borgir looks to become the country’s first black metal act to reach #1 on the charts with its upcoming album In Sorti Diabola, Gorgoroth still remains one of the most honestly feared acts in the nation and the genre.
Saw them all last week when they were released. Very interesting, when I first time read the interview in Terrorizer, I wanted to know more about the man, Gaahl. This goes even further imo, nicely done!
Followed the episodes being released last week also.
Excellent, beautifully shot, compelling and an amazing insight into a man i’ve been intrigued by for many years!
Nice to see that someone was able to get a bit deeper into this, as most articles/ docus are very mainstream and superficial, and from wrong point of view.
Very well done. It is about Heavy Metal and not field and stream. Good to try and get into the method behind the madness.

Baal – I don’t know…he nearly beat a man to death for the sake of embarrassing him…I don’t condone his actions at all but I would have to say that those actions are more than just words. Just sayin’…
