Wavves “So Bored”

If you are a music fan and have so far successfully avoided the groundswell of hype and praise directed at the release of the sophomore album Wavvves from the San Diego based Nathan Williams (using his Wavves moniker), expect that to change very soon. The upcoming disc, hot off last year’s well received album debut album Wavves (notice the additional v in the new disc) is receiving nearly deafening praise from the blogosphere (Pitchfork Media seemingly showed their hand when they previewed Wavvves on ABC news in January in what seemed like a wink and nod that they will be placing this album under their Best New Music banner) and will surely be met with a rapturous glee when it is finally released next month. And it should be. Wavvves is an excellent album and is well deserving of (most of) the praise, as it is a fuzzed out journey through blissful pop and gritty punk music, a la fellow California art punks No Age and current Pitchfork approved band the Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Unlike Wavves, this record will actually be released in numbers that won’t sell out and be hocked on eBay for exorbitant amounts of money, so check out Wavvves when it comes out. See the band live at the 7th Street Entry on April 5th , and award them bonus points for bringing along the excellent local band Vampire Hands for their nationwide tour. It should be a great double bill and Vampire Hands will surely come home with legions of new fans from all across the country.

overhyped noise.
p.s. i wouldn’t compare Pains of Being Pure at Heart to this garbage, they actually know what melody is
