Where It’s At: The Week Ahead (05/15/2008)
Triple Rock Social Club: Wednesday, May 28 – 9:00 $14 21+
Devouring M83’s recently released Saturdays = Youth involves little effort, its twelve tracks electing to browse through the last twenty some years of ambient while failing to neglect the lighthearted side of post punk. Take such a sound and the feelings that result, transpose everything to a live atmosphere with the addition of a full band and all of a sudden your Thursday night dance card is looking a lot less empty. Dinkytowner: Thursday, May 29 – 8:00 doors $5 18+
Two picks this week: Trama has been making a name for himself in the TC hip hop scene lately; the Queens native has the winning combination of witty punchlines, creative marketing and plain ol’ hard work. The lineup at his much-hyped mixtape release party is very strong, including a reunited Guardians of Balance. [Kyle "El Guante" Myhre]

7th St. Entry: Friday, May 30 – 8:00 doors $7 18+
The Friday bill at the 7th St. Entry is sonically opposite but equally strong: Roma di Luna’s rootsy Americana is one of the area’s most compelling sounds, and Jeremy Messersmith has a live show that transcends most traditional singer/songwriter fare. [Kyle "El Guante" Myhre]

Triple Rock Social Club: Friday, May 30 – 5:00 $10
Local record label Modern Radio is celebrating its nine year anniversary on Friday with a terrific lineup at the Triple Rock. Chief among those performing will be Mirah, the ukulele toting songstress whose experimental folk evokes the emotional gamut, from playful happiness to bitter longing. Oh yeah, and she was on Double Dare. Filling out the bill will be some pleasurable weirdness from the Danforths, some punky psychedelic grooves from the Chambermaids, as well as Jim Blaha of The Blind Shake’s new solo project Jim and the French Vanilla. The only excuse (and consequently mine) for missing this show is if you will be on a train headed for Montana. Or dead. [Jon Behm]
