The White Stripes break up!
After just recently teasing a new album which would be recorded sometime this year, the announcement came this morning via both the White Stripes‘ and Third Man Records‘ websites that the “band has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live.” The official statement continues by explaining that the decision to disband isn’t fueled by animosity or health-related issues—Meg has battled anxiety in the past—but rather to “preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.”
The statement, released by both Jack and Meg White, concludes by stating “The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Although I respect their decision, I cannot help but feel so very sad about this.
Jack obviously is doing too many other side projects for Meg.
Bummer as The White Stripes was/is his best band.
