Macaca Mulatta’s Chris Chinchilla, Jim Rhesus and Arran Lovechild connect in a way that refrains from giving their music any brutal force, but rather expels modern art-punk tradition. Formed as an outlet for ex-Art Brut and Rhesus members the nasally Strummer-esque vocals and pop n’ drop rhythm section create a smooth transition between their modern post-punk sound and stripped down art rock. The band came together for a supposed one-off, opening for The Rakes, but quickly found that there was a connection and group charisma that had to be pursued. And fortunately so, as the band now takes a distinctive voice as outsiders looking in on an English scene that has again lost presence and relevance.
