Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Zero”

yeah-yeah-yeahs-zero-single-cd-cover-album-art

Possibly the most remarkable aspect of Yeah Yeah Yeah’s new single “Zero” is how natural it sounds, especially when you consider that this is supposedly the band’s (as one press release put it) “all-new & more experimental sound.” As the song plummets deeper and deeper into a sonic disco, it becomes increasingly difficult to believe that this is the same band that once peeled a layer of skin off of us with the line “Boy you’re just a stupid bitch and girl you’re just a no good dick.” It could be that “Zero” is a step towards completing some sort of metamorphosis for the once jagged Karen O, but if the song is any indication of what we’re in for with It’s Blitz!, we’re going to hear a lot of polished synth accompanying her glossy vocals. Add to that collaborations with TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone, as well as the Bird and the Bee’s Greg Kurstin… I’m lead to believe that maybe the band should have been working with this “all-new & more experimental sound” years ago.
