Jeff Breault is a good friend of mine and a fellow lover of cars and all things automotive, in fact the majority of our conversations are around the automotive industry. One of our favorite things to do and to watch is racing, there really isn’t anything like it. Last week we got to talking about the best races that we have been to either together or on our own, and between us we have been to some of the best in the world. That chat inspired me to write this piece about some of the best races on Earth that you need to see before you die.
Isle of Man TT
The Isle of Man TT is the pinnacle of motorcycle racing and a scary race indeed, dubbed the world’s most dangerous. With this being said it isn’t dangerous, well not always, for the spectator and this is a truly exhilarating contest to be a part of. The bikes fly through the Isle of Man countryside at blistering speed on this 38 mile course and only the very best can lift the trophy.
Daytona 500
The inaugural race of the NASCAR season is the Daytona 500, one of the USA’s most famous and beloved races and one which sees hundreds of thousands tune on television. The race is nicknamed as the Super Bowl of car racing because of its popularity and whilst it looks great on the television, there is nothing like being there to hear the roar of those stock car engines in person, a truly special event.
Monaco Grand Prix
Jeffrey Breault saved up for almost a year for this one and he tells me that he had the time of his life. The Monaco Grand Prix is the creme de la creme of Formula 1 racing and it is also one of the oldest. The street circuit really tests even the best Formula 1 driver as they must navigate through this tight course, with little room for error and even less room for overtaking. The race is outstanding and there are few more decadent places on Earth to watch a car race than here in Monaco.
Indy500
What could be better for a car race than 500 miles of racing around an 8.5 mile track, with 33 drivers reaching speeds of over 240 mph? The answer is not very much and that is why the Indy500 is in our view the greatest race on the planet. Expect a long day of race watching when you attend the race and you also need to prepare well for the race, packing up some sandwiches and drinks before you leave!
Would you like to take on any of these races? If you had the choice which would be the one that you go to, and which is the best that you have ever been to? Let us know in the comments below, we’d love to hear from you.
