Senreve answers the burning desires of fashion-forward women. Born out of an epiphany, Senreve is an inspiring story. Coral Chung, its creator, principal, and co-founder, did a splendid job framing her fashion inspiration. What started as an ordinary business trip for Chung ended up driving her entrepreneurial ambition. Her breakout brand, Senreve, a relative newcomer to the luxury fashion scene, disrupted an industry where oligopolistic legends thrive. Chung focused on addressing the needs and wants of modern leading women in professional roles.
Chung values what women feel, think, and appreciate. This perspective meant engaging partners whose values were parallel to hers. Bringing Wendy Wen on board to launch the direct-to-consumer designer brand in 2016 was a worthwhile decision, according to Chung. Their combined repertoire, sensitivity, and taste for quality, high-end merchandise helped to Senreve so extraordinary. Versatility, functionality, and authenticity are the main highlights of these handbags. Senreve represents impeccable craftsmanship, with authentic leather merchandise straight from prolific Italian artisans who have decades of hands-on experience. Wen and Chung were particular about sourcing the right materials for their project.
Inventing Senreve, which means “sense” and “dream” in French, its co-founders are empowering women from a wide variety of industries. Millennials are the leading demographic of the brand today. Celebrities Brie Larson, Priyanka Chopra, Anna Kendrick, Jennifer Garner, and Lady Gaga caught Senreve fever, too. Although it primarily caters to an online market, it has a flagship location and its headquarters in San Francisco. With Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom as partners, Senreve continues to expand beyond its digital footprint.
Last fall, Senreve secured $16.75 million in its series A round of investing. The co-founders, specifically Coral Chung, had specific requirements for a partner. Chung considers Sonya Brown of Norwest Venture Partners to be an excellent fit. She sought to engage a female venture capitalist as a partner, a value that resonates with the brand.
Coral Chung wields an impressive resume as a former technology executive and strategy consultant. She worked with the COO and CEO of Prada of America, and she spearheaded a series of corporate development strategies for Solazyme, including one of Sephora’s top-selling beauty brand, Algenist.
Before coming to Silicon Valley, she was an advisor to various Fortune 500 private equity giants. Her specialization included operational improvements, mergers/acquisitions, and entry strategies. She got her big break working at the Hong Kong division of Bain and Company. In her most recent capacity as principal at Medallia, a leading SaaS data analytics provider, her portfolio included many top brands, including Apple, Tory Burch, Nordstrom, Nike, and so forth.
She is a benefactor of various community arts societies, including the San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet. Coral Chung also holds degrees in Economics and International Studies, and after she graduated from Wharton and UPenn, she earned her MBA at Sanford.
Getting the perfect handbag for her lifestyle was a chore before Chung co-founded Senreve. Now, her brand has become a fashion icon, inspiring professional women of all demographics. For her, starting Senreve was about emancipation and embracing individuality. She approached the mechanics of design diligently because she wanted a product that not only served her but others. Her practical handbags are ideal for women who want to look trendy and be professional. They allow them to carry both technology and the essentials without dulling their fashion.
