4 Signs Your Job is Affecting Your Health

During a busy schedule and demanding workload, it’s often hard to take a step back and honestly evaluate how your job might be impacting your health. Here are 4 important signs to watch out for.

  • You Keep Getting Ill (And It Takes You Longer to Recover)

Falling ill easily is a sign that your body’s immune system isn’t in its best shape – which is often a result of high amounts of stress and fatigue. If you find yourself constantly getting ill, and really struggling to fight off any sort of infection, then this is a sign your job situation is exhausting you and making you feel stressed enough that your body’s defenses are compromised.

  • You Dread Going into Work

Most people have those days where they don’t have much motivation for work the next day – especially after a vacation or a long weekend. Nevertheless, if your lack of motivation is instead replaced with a feeling of dread or anxiety, which occurs most evenings before work, then this is only going to be harmful to your health.

If you have a job that you constantly dread and gain no enjoyment from whatsoever, then it’s time for a career change. There are many avenues available to you, such as applying for jobs in a similar field, Maryland scholarships for returning to education or even starting your own business venture. You can visit CampusReel to find out more about available scholarships to return to education.

  • You Feel Withdrawn During Your Downtime

If your job is draining you and making you feel negative, this is likely to seep into your private time. If you arrive home after the workday and have no motivation to do anything or speak to anyone, this is a sign that your job is affecting you negatively, both mentally and physically.

  • Your Weight Has Changed

If you’re putting on an unhealthy amount of weight, this is a sign that your working routine isn’t healthy. It may be that you’re having rushed, unhealthy lunches, or you’re unhealthily snacking seated at a desk without much physical movement.

Likewise, if you’re losing a lot of weight, this is a sign that your job is taking too much out of you, or you’re not eating enough throughout the day. Eating healthily is key throughout the day, so you shouldn’t be skipping lunch.

What to Do if Your Job Isn’t Doing You Any Good

The next important step depends on your job circumstance and your desire for change. If it’s a simple matter of you disliking your job and finding no fulfillment in it, then you need to look for an alternative career avenue as soon as possible. If you enjoy your job and don’t wish to change careers, but your current situation is targeting your health, seek answers as to why that’s the case. Is your workload too much for one person? Are you saying yes to an unhealthy amount of overtime? In these cases, you should consider speaking to your boss about the situation. The first step is to recognize the signs and then understand how you want to best deal with them.
