North V South: which has the best location for a UK city break?

We’re all aware of the age-old debate on which is better: the North or the South of the UK. But today, we’re here to find out which part of the UK has the best location for a city break.

The UK is home to multiple picturesque, historical, and multicultural cities both in its northern and southern regions. No matter what you’re after, we’ll explore some of the best city breaks in the north and south to help come to a conclusion. Wherever you decide to travel, it’s best to book train tickets in advance to ensure a hassle–free journey.

The South: Home of the capital, London

For anyone visiting the UK from overseas, there’s no doubt that London is going to be on the top of their list, with its rich history, incredible offering of modern and traditional attractions, diverse culture and much more.

A city break in London will never let you down since there is so much to see and do; however, the hustle and bustle of this city isn’t for anyone.

The North: York:

If you’re after a charming city break with plenty to do but too much fuss, York is the place to go. You can venture down the shambles where you’ll see preserved mediaeval buildings, which date back as far as the 14th century and fascinating gift shops. York Minster is an incredible sight and the York Chocolate Story is an attraction you can’t miss.

The South: Bath

Bath gained notoriety for its underground natural hot springs during the early Roman era, and this beautiful city still exudes its charm today. Bath gets its name from the renowned Roman baths and is one of the best destinations for a unique UK city break. You can enjoy relaxing spa breaks, boat tours and amazing food.

The North: Manchester

One of the most fascinating cities in the UK, Manchester is diverse and bursting with character. It is also widely renowned for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere to visitors.

The city centre of Manchester is somewhat small, making it simple to navigate and explore the major attractions. Manchester is a terrific city for food lovers since it has a vast selection of independent restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars.

The North: Liverpool

Liverpool is known for all things Beatles, as the band originates from the city. The Royal Albert Docks are a must-visit for anybody visiting Liverpool. Liverpool’s Docks continue to thrive as a heartland for the arts

The South: Brighton

If you’re after a weekend break where the city meets the seaside, Brighton offers just that. One of the best seaside spots in the UK, Brighton offers opportunities for beach relaxation, boutique shopping, and sightseeing.

More city breaks in the North than South

If we were to make a list of the best city breaks in England, we’re sure there would be more northern destinations than southern ones. However, with the capital of England in proximity, the south is a real contender.
