Most of us have had a very difficult time over the last few months from a mental wellbeing perspective and that is exactly why now is not the time to start freaking out if you have gained a couple of pounds during lockdown. I was watching the brilliant Dr. Balpal Sandhu talking about this recently and he was absolutely right in saying that worrying about how much you may have gained is nonsense, the attitude you should have is how to lose that weight you have gained. This is perfectly normal and there is no reason to be worried, and here is why.
No Burning
The thing that very few people realize is how many calories we burn every day, just by going about our day. Walking to the metro station or the bus, walking from the car to the office, going to the printer, heading out for lunch, all of these small activities eventually added up and that would have easily burned 300 or more calories during the day. Since the lockdown however all of this has stopped and that is one reason for a little weight gain.
Mentally Challenging
It is absolutely true that this has been a mentally challenging time, we have been stuck inside and we have all felt those emotions around being trapped, and sometimes this can manifest itself in a way that makes us want to eat. some go the other way of course but many of us comfort eat and that is very often a reason as to why some of you may have gained a little bit of extra weight.
Strong Mind
As mentioned in the intro, this has been a very difficult time for so many and that is why the last thing that you need right now is to be feeling self-conscious or worried about yourself. Now is the time to be strong and to take action to build up your body and your mind. If you are able to approach this with a positive mindset then it won’t be long before you are back to looking your best and ready to take on the world just as you did before all of this happened.
Not Alone
There are so many people out there going through exactly the same thing that you are right now and that is why it is so important that you remain calm and understand that you are not alone. This has been a difficult time for so many of us and remember that things could always be worse than just gaining a few pounds.
Now is the time for optimism and action, it is the time to take the bull by the horns and look to increase how health your diet is and most importantly get out there and get active. You will see that once you get up and moving again the weight will fall off you.
